Dr. Newman Tekwa is a post-doctoral fellow of the South African Research Chair (SARChI) in Social Policy, University of South Africa. An expert on gender and social policy in Africa, his research niche includes gender, land and water reforms framed within the Transformative Social Policy Framework (TSP). His publications highlight the need to return to the wider vision and multi-tasking as opposed to the current externally imposed residual and mono-tasking of social policy exemplified by the social protection paradigm promoted in Africa and the Global South. His extension to issues of gender brings a dimension often missed in most welfare state research as highlighted by feminist scholars critiquing conventional comparative welfare state research.
